If you happened to chance across my blog yesterday, you might have peeped the nude lip I was wearing. I can’t even explain how excited I am to finally find a way to wear a nude lip. For years, I’ve tried different “nude” lipsticks that weren’t actually my nude. So today’s post is about how to discover how to make a nude lip work for you, especially if you have a darker skin tone.

In this post, I used MAC lip liner in “Chestnut” and MAC lipstick in “Cosmo”

Thanks to the lovely ladies at the MAC store in SF, I finally found the secret to wearing a nude lipstick: mixing colors! I know totally obvious, but for whatever reason, I never thought to do this.

So here we go.

Here is a pic of my lips with no color for reference.bd-nude3

Step 1: I used the lipstick and drew light strokes of the color on my lip to create a base.

Step 2: Line lips with lip liner and color in lips lightly with the liner.

Step 3: Go back over lips with the lipstick lightly starting from where your lips meet and outward until you achieve your desired color. Mix the color with your lips as you complete this step.

Step 4: Add some lip gloss ( I just used MAC’s Clear Lipglass) and voila!

Hope this post was helpful!  I hear MAC’s “Cork” lipliner is also a good one for darker skin tones. I also love this look using RiRi Hearts MAC “Bad Gal RiRi” lipstick. And whether you have dark skin, medium skin, or light skin I think the key takeaway here is to find a lip liner that is close your skin tone and then work from there and experiment with different “nude” lipstick shades until you find one you like.
