Happy New Year to you all! Although we are literally only 2 days into the new year, I already feel like 2014 is going to be amazing! I am really excited to see what this year has in store.
Here are a few things I hope to do better this year.
Take chances – It’s so hard to get out of your comfort zone and do something different from your normal day to day routine, but taking a chance and doing something crazy can prove to have amazing results. You will probably have a blast doing it and even if you don’t, you will learn something new about yourself.
Get healthy – I will be the first to say, I LOVE food! Like, seriously. I always say I don’t eat to live, I live to eat. And unfortunately the healthy stuff doesn’t really tickle my fancy (I live for Umami Burger, Philz Coffee, and Nestle Chocolate Chip Cookies). But the earlier you start thinking about your health, the better. As a former track and field athlete, I know how diet and exercise can easily help improve your body and your mood. Little things like drinking more water, cutting out the 2am trips to McDonalds, and working out a couple times a week can easily get you on track to a healthy lifestyle.
Baby Steps, Baby Steps.
Travel – The older I get, the more my travel bug starts to itch. I want to go everywhere! Whether it’s discovering new cities in the US or traveling abroad, I cannot wait to see all that this world has to offer. Even if its just discovering new restaurants in your hometown or a new place to take photos or a new thrift shop to frequent, that feeling of a novel discovery can make your day, or even your entire year.
Make plans/goals & follow through with them – I’m all for a spontaneous adventure, but making plans and writing out goals gives our minds a blueprint that we can use to guide ourselves toward the right direction. The thought process alone helps you brainstorm what you want to accomplish. It can be for tomorrow or for 5 years from now. Simply taking that first step to write it down starts the process.
Carpe Diem – Seize the Day! We only have one life to live so we MUST make the most of it. Do not wait for anyone else to do what you wanna do. Like Nike, just do it! And have faith. Having faith in yourself and having faith in God can help you move mountains.

These are great ideas. I especially agree with the first one about taking chances because i think it the key to everything. It broadens our horizon and opens up opportunities for us. We have to shake things up and do something crazy now and again in order to grow and learn. Even if is something that we don’t necessarily enjoy then at least we can look back and say we did it and maybe we will learn something from it. I also think doing stuff that feels uncomfortable is a great step to getting out of the comfort zone and I don’t think being uncomfortable is necessarily a bad thing. And one things I will be doing this year is learning to be uncomfortable – I’ve even set myself a crazy challenge for this: I will be keeping my underwear in a wedgie for a day and not adjusting it. I know it sounds really crazy but why not. Of course I will be trying other crazy stuff but I think this will be a good start as it’s something that’s easy to do and will definitely be uncomfortable.
And I like your travel goal. I think is a good one too and it will help you to learn more about the world and experience something new.
Happy new year and I hope you achieve your goals.
