Minimalism: A Love Story

First let me start off by saying that I apologize for the lack of posts lately..my camera has been under the weather =/. But, I’ve got a new one on the way..so expect some new posts next week. In the meantime, I thought I would write a little fashion- inspo post about….my love and adoration for minimalism in fashion.

According to wikipedia….Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, wherein artists intend to expose the essence or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts. Minimalism is any design or style wherein the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect.

For me, minimalism is the art of creating a bold & daring look while in the same breath looking absolutely effortless. Minimalistic looks manage to exude nuances of being a bad ass while still feeling like a breath of fresh air. All in all, I absolutely swoon at the thought of it.

There are a few fashion blogger that can pull of this look really well but two of my faves (whom I’ve probably mentioned before) are

Dont they just look so clean?! Here are some more minimalistic images that I hope inspire you. I feel like my aesthetic is definitely headed in this direction.

From the moment I tried on MAC’s Ruby Woo red lipstick, I immediately knew matte lipstick was it for me. The texture and look of a matte lip just makes the color pop and look absolutely perfect on my skin. I have become seriously obsessed with all things matte since then…lips, nails, even cars.

Sweet Inspiration

I haven’t done an inspiration post in awhile and thought it’s about time that I post another one… especially since summer is almost upon us and I will probably be doing a lot of traveling. Sometimes when I am feeling stuck in a rut or a little lack luster I turn to my trusty tumblr feed to show me something cool, interesting, special, bad AF, cute, or something that makes me think. Not to mention my blog roll always has some good ish. It’s also nice to aggregate your thoughts into one place.
So, without further ado…here we go!

Black is Beautiful

In light of recent posts written by big time celebs Kelly Rowland and Brandy
about the struggle to embrace their beautiful dark brown skin, it reminded of a post I wrote awhile back titled “You’re Pretty…for a Dark Skinned Girl.” I too, have struggled with having dark skin. I was blessed enough to have an amazing mother who told me how beautiful I was and did little things like only buying me black Barbies so I could see representations of beauty the world that looked like me. However, it was the rest world that would continue to try and convince me that my skin wasn’t beautiful. But eventually, I was able to come to a point in my life where I said f*ck ’em, if people can’t appreciate what I have to offer then they aren’t worth my time. I think all shades of brown are beautiful and hope that one day they are all celebrated equally.
Those posts inspired me to start a Beauty Diary series, featuring beauty products that I love, that look great on women of color..especially darker skinned woman. Growing up I’ve had such a hard time trying to find colors that actually looked good on me. So…stay tuned, I love makeup and will be sharing all my beauty loves!!
